My First Film Festival: cinema for everyone, without barriers

From November 8 to 23, My First Film Festival celebrates its 18th edition with a firm commitment to inclusion.

The festival aims for all children and their families to enjoy cinema under equal conditions. In addition to ensuring adapted access at all venues, it offers screenings specifically designed for audiences who are deaf or hard of hearing and for children with ASD.
All accessible sessions feature front-of-house staff experienced in inclusion and satisfaction surveys after each activity, to keep improving year after year.

Accessible screenings for deaf and hard-of-hearing audiences

Three screenings include adapted subtitles, a hearing loop, a Catalan Sign Language (LSC) interpreter, and live subtitling during the introduction and post-screening discussion. There will also be a personalized information and welcome point for families and targeted outreach with LSC videos and adapted subtitles.

  • Little Amélie (Nov 8 – Filmoteca de Catalunya, 17:00 · 10+)
  • Leaving Home (Acció>Cinema) (Nov 9 – Filmoteca de Catalunya, 17:00 · 8+)
  • Shorts Competition 10+ (Nov 23 – Filmoteca de Catalunya, 17:00 · 10+)

As last year, we offer 10 free double tickets for D/deaf attendees plus one companion per session; email hola@primerfestivaldecine.com to claim them (first 10), and any additional companions must purchase their own tickets.

Autism-friendly screenings (TEA-adapted)

These sessions create a calmer, more predictable sensory environment: the room remains partially lit, sound is gentle and steady, and presenters clearly announce the start of the screening. Families receive an activity guide for any facilitated dynamics and have access to a quiet room if needed.

  • Little Experiments (Nov 15 – CCCB, 12:00 · 5+)
  • Crazy Stop-Motion (Nov 16 – CCCB, 12:00 · 10+)
  • KM0 Talent (Nov 23 – Auditori Sant Martí, 12:00 · 6+)
  • Little Experiments (Nov 9 – Condeduque, Madrid, 12:00 · 5+)

Expanded anticipation guides

There will be 9 anticipation guides (three more than last year) for the following venues:
Filmoteca de Catalunya · Cine Bosque · Girona · Verdi · Institut Francès de Barcelona · Cinema Girona · Maldà · Zumzeig · Auditori Sant Martí

These guides are helpful not only for neurodivergent audiences, but for any family wishing to prepare their visit in advance.

  • Tales from the Magic Garden (Nov 9 – Cinema Girona and MK2 Cine Paz)
  • Billy the Cowboy Hamster (Nov 15 – Verdi Park)
  • Crazy Stop-Motion (Nov 16 – CCCB)

A more accessible website

My First Film Festival is also improving its website’s digital accessibility by working on:

  • Keyboard navigation (semantic structure and focus states)
  • Contrast and readability (palette and type per WCAG 2.1)
  • Accessible labeling (ARIA, titles, descriptions for screen readers)
  • Logical content order (coherence with assistive tech)
  • Accessibility validation (automated tools + manual review)

My First Film Festival
strives to break down barriers and bring cinema closer to every family—with stories that move, make us laugh, and invite reflection.
