The animation director and designer Julia Ocker was born in Stuttgart, and studied audiovisual communication in Pforzheim and animation at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg.
Her graduation film, Kellerkind (2012), won the First Steps award, and Tricky Women (2013) was nominated for an Annie Award.
She discovered her passion for children's films when offered the chance to produce five short films with Studio FILM BILDER for the I Know an Animal series. Based on these five short films she created her own Animanimals series, which was sold to more than 180 territories around the world.
