Screening “Olivia and the Invisible Earthquake” + Q&A with Irene Iborra

This opening session will feature Irene Iborra, screenwriter, director and stop-motion animator. Co-founder of Citoplasmas Stop Motion, Iborra will present Olivia and the Invisible Earthquake, the first Catalan stop-motion feature film directed by a woman. After the screening, she will share insights into her creative process and answer audience questions about this luminous story of resilience, friendship and imagination.

In Madrid, stop-motion animator Iñaki Carbonell and director of photography Isabel de la Torre will join the screening of Olivia and the Invisible Earthquake to share his experience as part of the animation and set-building team. Carbonell, a specialist in stop motion and university lecturer and de la Torre, director of photography specialized in stop-motion will talk with the audience about the technical and artistic challenges of this pioneering production and about the magic of bringing characters to life frame by frame.

Olivia, her little brother Tim and their mother are evicted from their home and forced to start from scratch in another neighbourhood. While their mother juggles to resolve the situation, Olivia decides to invent a game to protect her brother Tim from the harsh reality they find themselves in: everything they are experiencing is not real, they are shooting a film.
Fortunately, a new and colourful family forms around them, with whom they will have incredible adventures. Through laughter, tears, magic and friendship, they will discover that they are the incredible everyday heroes of their own lives.
