Crankies
A crankie is a type of shadow theatre or moving diorama from the 19th century, in which images arranged in a strip move horizontally within a frame, usually operated by a crank or handle, creating the illusion of movement and telling a story visually.

In this workshop, presented by the Primer Plano film school for children and young people, we will discover the narrative mechanisms behind the film technique known as the sequence shot. Making a crankie, we will immerse ourselves in the magical world of Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland. We will explore key scenes from the story and work together to bring the narrative to life visually. Telling the story from the moment when Alice falls down the rabbit hole to her encounter with the Queen of Hearts, the participants will use basic shapes and collage technique to create a series of scenes in continuous motion, capturing the magic and imagination of Carroll's classic tale.
