Nadia Mata Portillo

Nadia Mata Portillo

Director, screenwriter and teacher
Spain
Nadia combined her university studies in Audiovisual Communication with a specialisation in Directing at the ECAM film school. Her end-of-course submission, Preguntas Frecuentes (Frequently Asked Questions), screened at international festivals, revealed her weakness for romantic stories. Her next short film, I Love Madrid, was selected for prestigious festivals such as Cinema Jove, Oaxaca and Palms Springs.

Nadia has directed music videos for bands such as La Bien Querida and La Casa Azul, and commercials for brands like Pullmantur, Nestlé, Zara Home, Google and Ayuda en Acción, among others, as well as several short films, including Marceline Blurr (2015), which was selected at forty festivals and won four awards.

At the same time, Nadia has also developed her career as a screenwriter, and she wrote the script for the feature film Un carro cargado de paciencia, winner of the Pilar Miró Award from the Television Academy, and the short Ni una sola línea, shortlisted by the Film Academy for the Goya Awards, and which has received more than forty international awards.

At present, Nadia combines the development of the film Los años fríos with the pre-production of her next short film, Donde el viaje termina, an adaptation of the comic of the same name by Paco Roca. She also teaches Film Literacy in the Master's Degree in Filmmaking at ECAM, working with young people who, like herself, hope to work in the world of film.
