My First Film Festival announces the winners of the 2025 School Contests
Schools from Barcelona and Figueres stand out for their students’ creativity
The 2025 school edition of My First Film Festival once again enjoyed strong participation from schools and students. Thousands of children took part in the festival’s film programme and actively joined the drawing and video-review contests, designed to encourage reflection, discussion and creative expression after watching the films.
All participating schools were invited to submit entries according to each educational level, and the jury highlighted the high quality, sensitivity and originality of the works received.
Drawing Contest
In the Early Childhood Education category, the winning drawing was created by Abis, from Escola Lurdes, inspired by the short film The Eagle and the Wren. The jury praised the overall beauty of the composition, the skilsee use of colour and the remarkable precision in the outlines of all the figures.
In the Lower Primary category, the award went to Emma, a student in Year 2B at Escola Salvador Dalí in Figueres, for her drawing based on the short film Monster. Her work stood out for its strong sense of realism and expressive power.
Video Review Contest
In the Middle Primary category, the winning class was Year 3A from Escola La Llacuna del Poblenou (Les Bellugues), for their video review of the short film The Pink Panther. The jury highlighted the freshness and spontaneity of the children’s comments, the creative use of costumes and the carefully edited end credits.
In the Upper Primary category, the prize was awarded to Year 6 from Escola Turó del Cargol, specifically for the audio review created by Iris, Rita and Frieda on the short film Hannah and the Crocodile. The jury valued the thoughtful analysis of the topic and the clear, well-structured presentation of ideas in podcast format.
Awards and acknowledgements
The winning schools will receive a selection of films from Rita & Luca Films, a distributor specialising in independent cinema for children, as well as a 20% discount to return to the festival next year. In addition, all participating schools will receive a screening code for one film from the distributor’s catalogue, along with educational materials to work with it in the classroom.
Mi Primer Festival would like to thank all participating schools, teachers and students for their involvement and enthusiasm. Year after year, the school contests demonstrate how cinema can become a powerful educational tool, fostering critical thinking, creativity and collaboration in the classroom.
