My First Film Festival launches its first Sustainability Plan to make cinema a more mindful experience

My First Film Festival takes a step forward in its commitment to the planet. In its 18th edition, the festival places sustainability at the heart of its organisation, aiming to reduce its environmental impact and create a positive legacy for the community.

In collaboration with K is for Knowledge, the festival has developed its first Sustainability Plan, a roadmap that identifies the main environmental and social impacts of the project and proposes concrete actions to minimise them.

“Cinema can be a powerful tool to educate, move and connect, and we want it to also be an example of responsibility and respect for the world we share,” the organisation explains.

Key commitments of the Sustainability Plan

The document defines several lines of action, ranging from energy management to social inclusion:

  • Responsible energy: prioritising venues that use renewable energy sources and efficient lighting system

  • Sustainable mobility: encouraging the use of public transport, bicycles and shared travel to attend the festiva

  • Sustainable gastronomy: supporting local and seasonal suppliers, with options free of single-use plastics.

  • Materials and waste: reusing decorations, reducing unnecessary merchandising and ensuring recycling points in all venues.

  • Inclusion and accessibility: ensuring that all families can enjoy the festival, regardless of their situation or abilities.

  • Education and awareness: organising workshops and activities that introduce sustainability to children in a fun and engaging way.

The festival will also begin to measure its carbon footprint to assess the real impact of its actions and improve year after year.

With this new plan, My First Film Festival reaffirms its commitment to combining culture, education and environmental responsibility, inviting audiences to take part in a celebration of cinema that is more conscious, respectful and transformative.
